Well, it was expected.
According to numerous reports, Twitter is planning to shut down Fleets, which is similar to the story option Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Snapchat offers.
Twitter says they are removing the tool because it is not used as the company hoped.
Before this, users could share texts, images, and videos before they would be automatically removed after 24 hours.
On August 3, Fleets will no longer be available.
Twitter announced the move on July 14 via a blog post.
The move shows that Twitter is moving away from the trend that was started by Snapchat, which was then followed by Instagram and Facebook.
In the blog post, Twitter said:
Although we built Fleets to address some of the anxieties that hold people back from tweeting, Fleets are mostly used by people who are already tweeting to amplify their own tweets and talk directly with others.
Twitter introduced Fleets in 2020 and made it available by November.
Earlier this week, some employees bid their farewell to the unique function that Twitter introduced.
Paul Stamatiou, the person who led the design of Fleets, said Twitter wanted the feature to be raw and authentic and for it to feel like it’s lighter tan tweeting.
Bye, bye, Fleets. You will be missed.
