But the good thing is that most of the computers that we have inside our house are upgradable and we can tweak some things in them to make them a bit faster and improve the overall performance that you should be getting.

1. Clean them frequently

One of the most common PC problems is overheating or heating problems, which are usually caused because the owner of the computer have never cleaned out their computer’s fans.

If you have not cleaned your computer in the last 3 to 5 years, you need to get it cleaned as soon as possible, considering that its fans are responsible for keeping your CPU and other components cool. If they are not getting proper cooling, you will see a lot of slow performance, considering that they are thermal throttling.

While you are cleaning it or are getting it cleaned, you want to tell your IT guy to change the thermal paste that there is on your CPU. Applying a new thermal paste will help you out a lot in getting better temps!

2. Stop downloading pirated stuff

The second thing that you want to do is stop downloading and using pirated applications on your computer, considering that they bring malware into your computer and they can be playing a huge role in slowing your newly bought computer.

The solution on this is delete them, scan your computer for some malware and make sure that you are keeping it clean all the time and are avoiding installing applications from a suspicious website or forum.

3. Add more RAM

Sometimes, more RAM is all you need.

If your computer only has 4GB RAM, it’s time to upgrade your RAM to 8GB or even more. If you have 8GB and it’s still having a hard time performing the tasks that you are carrying out, it’s time to go for 16GB.

Basically, the more demanding your applications are, the more RAM you will need. However, make sure that you are following the compatibility with your motherboard. Some motherboards only support until a certain point along with the clock-speeds.

If you are using Google Chrome as your main or default browser, it’s time to make it a bit light, which you can by removing add-ons that you have installed on it.

Remember, Google Chrome is one of the most power demanding apps that we use, if you already have a slow browser and you are using Chrome, it’s just obvious that you just need to get rid of it so you can make your PC better and perform well.

5. Use lighter browsers

One of the most common reasons on why we face slow speeds when we are using browsers is because of the fact that they are extremely power hungry.

If you are using Google Chrome, the most power hungry browser that has ever been created, you want to switch and use Edge or Mozilla Firefox, considering that they are faster, lighter and are not that power hungry.

Doing this simple thing will help you free up at least 1 to 2GB of RAM when you are opening over 10 to 20 tabs while browsing the internet.

6. Uninstall unused applications and files

Another reason could be having too many applications on your computer.

When your computer is left with very little storage, it will automatically become really slow, considering that it’s running on the very little juice that it has left. In order to make it a bit faster, it’s time for you to remove the applications, files, and other programs that you have barely used and are not useful to you anymore.

It’s important to remove them so you can speed them up. Also, when you are trying to remove programs from your computer, make sure you do it the right way, not going to your Drive C and manually doing them.

7. Scan PC for Malware or Viruses

 Malware or viruses could also be slowly killing you computer!

When we download something off the internet, it’s important to scan them so you can make sure that they are not carrying any malware or any viruses. But sometimes despite scanning them, some viruses and malware can get through. This is why it’s important to completely scan your PC for viruses or malware.

Download or subscribe to a virus cleaner app so you can clean your computer and get rid of all the malicious files that got into your computer without you knowing.

8. Update your computer

Frequent updates are supposed to help you out not slow your computer down.

A lot of people believe that updates are going to slow your computer down, I mean yes they do but they are also released to help you out in making your computer faster and much more efficient, considering that they improve the security features and remove bugs or errors that you might have been facing.

If you are using Windows 10 right now, make sure that you are getting the updates for this operating system before upgrading later this year to Windows 11.

9. Restart your computer  

It’s also important to restart your computer from time to time, considering that it allows all the applications and programs to shut down and run again from the top, meaning all the unnecessary power they were consuming are going to get removed. Not only that, but restarting your computer will also help you get rid of bugs or other problems your PC might have been facing because of prolonged usage.

10. Get an SSD

 If you want better loading speeds, it’s time to get rid of that HDD and buy yourself a SSD.

Yep, this simple thing can make a lot of things happen for you, considering that SSDs are extremely fast and they are capable of doing a lot of things for you, which includes speed up the entire computer by a lot.

To get an overall better performance, clean your computer, get better and more RAM, update your computer and install an SSD.
